Our intake team helps to ensure that each client is matched with the best suited psychologist from our team.
When a client first makes contact or is referred to our services, our friendly reception team will gather some basic details and arrange a time that is most convenient for a call from Dori – our practise director. Dori knows each of our psychologists personally, so is able to advise on their expertise and strengths, and provide a guide as to which psychologist would work well with you personally. During this short phone call, Dori will aim to get a sense of which issues you would like to address in counselling, your goals, needs and availability, and will book in your first appointment for you with the psychologist that both you and our expert callers believe to be the best fit.
We will also be able to answer any queries you may have, and guide you through payment and funding options, to ensure that you are completely comfortable.
Having booked your first appointment with the help of Dori, you will be ready to begin counselling. Sessions take place from one of our many counselling rooms, located in several Melbourne suburbs. On the day of your session. Should you have any problems finding our offices, our reception team, located in our head office in Carnegie, are on-hand Monday to Thursdays between 9am and 7:30pm and on Fridays between 9am and 6pm to help you.

With the wealth of different types of healthcare professionals in the field today, it can be hard to know where the differences lie, and which type of practitioner is best for you.
Psychologists are highly qualified mental health and emotional wellbeing professionals, that have under- gone between 5-7 years of rigorous training. Psychologists are qualified to administer a wide range of evi- dence based therapeutic techniques, to help their clients explore and unravel the emotional difficulties in their lives, in addition to helping those who suffer from emotional disorders to manage and cope with their mental illness. Psychologists differ from Psychiatrists, in that they do not administer any form of medication.
The answer is simply this: it’s all up to you. The reality is that each persons counselling ‘journey’ is as individual as they are. Some clients feel that they have achieved their goals after just one session, others will continue to see one of our psychologists over a number of years. Ultimately it is you, the client, who can decide when you feel you have reached your goals and no longer need our services. But should this ever change in the future, Nexus’ doors are always open for you to begin sessions again.
At Nexus we do not request any form of payment in advance. We ask that payment for sessions is paid on the day, after your session, and your psychologist or the reception team at the location will help you make the payment. For details of all fee’s and payment options, please see our Fees & Facts page.
Each session lasts 55 minutes.
