I believe in the power of therapeutic relationship between psychologist and client and utilise evidence based practice and therapies to get the best outcome for the client.
I am holistic in my approach and believe context is important in guiding therapy. However, Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) forms the basis for the bulk of the work with most clients. I endeavour to understand a clients history from developmental and attachment perspectives where appropriate to enhance the CBT work. I work at the level the client is comfortable with in helping them moving forward. My specific approach varies somewhat as is dependent on client needs, problem area and individual factors.
I have been working in the mental health field for 13 years and a registered psychologist since 2007. I recently completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology. I have treated a wide range of disorders and difficulties at varying levels of severity. I have worked in numerous mental health settings including public and private work. I have worked in private practice specialising in anxiety, community psychiatric services (public mental health), contracted to the Australian Defence Force, worked in schools and for occupational rehabilitation companies working with employees, job seekers, motor vehicle or workplace accident clients and hence have broad experience across occupational health issues. In addition to this my thesis was on the potential benefits of personal training (exercise) for depression.
