Approach

I think it important to work collaboratively and compassionately with people to understand their needs for attending therapy. As such, I utilise a non-judgemental, open, enthusiastic and supportive approach to work with clients in the pursuit of their goals. I tend to take a more strengths based, skills focused approach to helping clients understand current difficulties and how to overcome the barriers they are experiencing in their lives.  To do this I utilise a variety of evidence based therapies depending on an individual’s needs. For the most part, I draw on techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Schema Therapy.

Experience

Since qualifying as a psychologist I have worked with adults (18+) in both private practice and community mental health settings. More specifically I have worked in acute care mental health teams in both Adelaide and Sydney working with individuals experiencing mental health crises. Additionally, I have worked in a longer term capacity with individuals seeking support with complex mental health and social needs ( including psychosis, mood disorders, debilitating anxiety, complex trauma, personality disorders, drug and alcohol issues, suicidality/deliberate self harm) as well as those presenting for evidenced based therapy in a private practice setting (including but not limited to anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, psychosis, Anger Management, stress management, eating disorders, chronic pain, PTSD following traumatic experiences such as workplace accidents, car accidents, assaults).

Over the years I have developed an interest in working with individuals who are suffering from anxiety, including chronic worry (generalised anxiety), panic attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, social anxiety, clinical perfectionism, specific phobias and anxiety following traumatic events/ Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. I also really enjoy working with those seeking support for insomnia and Bipolar Affective Disorder.
